Bridge Work and Detour Notice

Town of Bow News

This letter is to notify you of a City construction project scheduled to begin May 24, 2021 and continue to mid-November 2021. This project, which will require the closure of Birchdale Road through spring and into the fall, will replace the City’s bridge on Birchdale Road over Bela Brook.  This bridge has been deemed structurally deficient and limited in hydraulical capacity.

The project is 80% funded by the NHDOT State Aid Bridge Program and 20% by the City. The proposed bridge will consist of a forty five foot span, precast butted deck beam superstructure with pile supported cast-in-place concrete abutments. Upon completion of the bridge, the roadway will be reconstructed, modern guardrail protection installed, and side slopes either armored with stone or revegetated. Minor utility disruptions may occur during this time period. The private utility company will notified you in advance of any disruption to your service.

E.D. Swett, Inc. of Concord, NH is the contractor who will be completing the work on behalf of the City. The roadway will be closed day and night during the replacement process; no through traffic or emergency vehicles will be able to pass during the closure. Enclosed is a detour plan which will be established by the contractor designated by traffic signs and message boards via Clinton Street, Hooksett Turnpike and Page Road in Bow. The City of Concord has coordinated with both Concord and Bow School Districts to provide for the safe and efficient transportation of children to their respective schools. The contractor will work Monday – Friday, 7 AM to 7 PM. You will experience construction vehicles in the vicinity during this time. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you.
